About the Doctor |
Professor Khalid (B.Med.Sc 1973; MBBS Hons 1975 Monash University), did his residency at the Alfred Hospital and trained for his FRACP in endocrinology at Prince Henry’s Hospital where he also did his Ph.D..He returned to joined Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as a lecturer in 1982, promoted to Associate Professor in 1984 and Professor in 1990. He was Dean from 1990 to 1997, and foundation Director of Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 1996 till 2000. He was appointed foundation Professor of Medicine Monash University in Malaysia in 2004 and Head of the new Clinical School in Johor Bahru 2006 and Deputy Head Education Tan Sri Jeffry Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University, Malaysia.
His main research interests are in stress and mechanisms of adaptation to stress by hormones, metabolic stress and antioxidants, and the relationship of socioeconomic factors as a form of stress in the epidemic of diabetes. His current passion is to determine if metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance leading to diabetes is a form of Cushing’s Disease of the abdominal adipose tissue. He has published more than 300 papers in local and international journals and was an invited speaker in the IDF Congresses as well as regional and local Conferences
He was awarded the Tun Abdul Razak Research Award in 1986, The Asia Pacific Society Clinical Nutrition Award 1996, the National Science Award Malaysia in 1997 and was the joint winner of the MERDEKA Award for medicine, science and technology in 2008.
He is a Fellow of The Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ireland, London and in 2008 awarded honorary Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
He was President of Malaysian Endocrine Society 1995 – 1998 and ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies in 1992 -1993; President of Persatuan Diabetes Malaysia 1985 – 1990, and was a Member of Council, International Diabetes Federation representing Western Pacific countries in 2000.
He was an elected member of the Malaysia Medical Council from 1986 till 2001, and was Master of The Academy of Medicine ofMalaysia 2005 – 2008 and Fellow Academy of Science Malaysia.
Prof. Khalid is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Tropicana Medical Centre.

Dr. Vijay Ananda Paramasvaran received his undergraduate training at Queen’s University, Belfast. He is a member of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and the Royal College of Physicians Ireland and Fellow of the Royal college of Physicians Edinburgh.
He received his subspecialty instruction at University Malaya Medical Centre, where he continues to be a visiting Consultant Endocrinologist, in the field of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. His areas of interest are Diabetes, Endocrinology and Osteoporosis. |
